NSF REU at Oakland University - AERIM: Automotive and Energy

The department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University (OU) will once again be hosting a National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates ( REU ) Site, “ AERIM :Automotive and Energy Research and Industrial Mentorship Program at Oakland University.” The focus will be automotive and energy-related research topics in mechanical engineering. We are seeking to recruit talented and motivated undergraduate students from across the United States to spend 10 weeks in the summer working on a research project at OU and are especially interested in providing opportunities for  women, underrepresented minority and first generation in college students . Students will be provided with a $5,000 stipend, meal allowance and other support. No prior automotive or research experience is required.   We are currently planning on running the program in-person from May 22 to July 28, 2023. To support access to undergraduate research for students who may be bypassing these opportunities for outside employment, funding is available through the Tomorrow’s Engineers fund from Dolese for approximately 12-15 undergraduate research fellowships for Spring 2023. The two different fellowship opportunities are: Engineering Research Entry Apprenticeships for students new to research. Maximum budget $3,000 with minimum $2,000 for student stipend. Engineering Research Fellowships for students with one semester of research experience with the faculty member already. We are recruiting qualified pre-doctoral (masters and pre-dissertation graduate students) in the physical and quantitative sciences for the upcoming NIH T35 grant (T35AI165252-01) short summer training program titled “ Big Data Health Science Scholar Program for Infectious Diseases ” program at Columbia,   University of South Carolina . Eligible students should have completed at least 1 year in their graduate program with a GPA of 3.5 or better.       This program is designed to address the shortage of Big Data health science workforce and promote Big Data health science research by introducing eligible students to the application of data science to infectious disease.       We plan to recruit eight (8) students each year who are interested in learning about how to apply data science to infectious disease related research.
